Shooting at the 2016 Silverstone Classic

By | Car, film, Formula 1, Gear, How To, Shooting, silverstone | No Comments

This was my first trip to the Silverstone Classic, and boy was it a big one! I had seen beautiful photography from this event many times but my love of all things Goodwood has meant I haven’t had the budged to get out here yet. Well I managed to do it in 2016, and I may be doing this instead of the Goodwood FoS in 2017, only time will tell. But it was one hell of a motor sport event, I spent 2 days and 1 night inside the confines of Silverstone Circuit.

Sony 70-200mm f/4.0 G OSS ISO100 F8 1/320 147mm This was my first ever trip to Brands Hatch, which is located in the foothills just a couple hours outside of London. Because its close to where I live, I decided to ride my motorcycle to the track. I thought I'd just throw my gear in my backpack and enjoy a nice ride down! Afterall it's an ultralight mirrorless setup right? Well let me just say this straight up, riding to and from the track and carrying all this crap around for hours in the heat kicked my ass. By the time...

Shooting the WEC Silverstone

By | Car, Gear, How To, Shooting, silverstone | No Comments

This was my first ever WEC event, and even though I’ve been to Silverstone before I didn’t know what to expect. But one thing blew me away immediately, the ACCESS to eveything. I could go to almost any grandstand, the paddock and even a pit walk. The smaller crowd, and length of the endurance race, meant that all those little gaps in the fencing that are usually jam packed at an F1 race, were open for me to use. If I couldn’t get some nice photos here, I wasn’t going to get them anywhere. The pressure was ON!

Shooting the 74th Members Meeting

By | Car, Gear, Motorcycle, Shooting | No Comments
Sony/Zeiss 55mm 1.8 ISO100 F8 1/60 Man, I sure do love Goodwood!! The effort that goes into the events Lord March holds are beyond anything I've seen anywhere else. The Festival of Speed and Revival are both world famous, but quickly rising in the ranks is the Members Meeting. This is the 74th year they have held it, but only the 3rd where it was open to the public. What makes the Members Meeting special is the vintage racing and high speed demonstrations. You wont be so likely to ever see more priceless cars banging doors anywhere else on Earth. Sony/Zeiss...

How to photograph Formula 1 as a fan

By | Car, Formula 1, How To, Uncategorized | No Comments
It's easy to think you can't shoot decent photos at a Formula 1 race unless you're a pro with a huge white lens, an expensive camera and a press pass ... oh don't forget the neon vest. Well it's true that there will always be someone with a better vantage point and a better perspective than you, but don't let that stop you from taking photographs on race day! Sony 50mm 1.8 I let the pros shoot cars alone on track, I’ll shoot the fans! The biggest lesson I’ve learned is what I can’t shoot at a Formula 1 race. As...

Well Formula 1 preseason is underway with the tests in Jerez, so my Formula 1 pants are starting to tingle and it’s time to start paying attention. I don’t have any concrete plans to go to any F1 races this year, but my proximity to Europe means anything is possible.  I’ve checked off all the European tracks that were on my bucket list, so from here on out any race would be a treat. To celebrate the 2015 Season getting underway, I’m going to list my top 15 Formula 1 photos in no particular order. So lets get started!!! #1…
