If you take away Eau Rouge, you take away the reason why I do this...Ayrton Senna
Spa….a track that is probably at the top of any motorspot fans bucket list. Tucked away in the middle of the forest, far into the Belgian countryside lies the grandest of all Formula 1 circuits. It’s very old, very long and very dangerous, and it harbors the most incredible series of curves of any track in the world. Eau Rouge, it can make or break you, it can build your legend or end your career!
To see a Formula 1 car tear up Eau Rouge at Spa has been my #1 motorsport dream. Getting there is no easy task, many buses and trains make it a very very long day indeed. But once you are there, you are the smallest thing around. The trees, the TRACK..everything is on a massive scale making you feel tiny. A short walk through the forest brings you to remarkable Eau Rouge, and this is where I was able to watch my first ever Formula 1 start.
For 10 laps, standing on top of a fence, just to the left of the famous Shell sign, my ears were assaulted as was my ability to comprehend. The speed at which a car takes this turn has to be seen to be believed. I didn’t hear any lifting, other than the simple physics of the car being slammed against the asphalt, scraping it’s way up the hill because of the massive forces at play on the suspension. If you can see ONE motorsport thing in your life, see a modern F1 car at speed on Eau Rouge.
