Old bikes brought us together and we ride them like their maker intended. Sometimes a little faster than that.

For the last 6 years it’s been Formula 1 and British motoring culture for me, but alas nothing lasts forever. I now find myself living under the golden sun of Southern California now and I’m not upset about that AT ALL.  The Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club classic bike show was the first group meet I’ve been to since I’ve been back in the neighborhood. Like any other bike gathering there were beers, tattoos, old bikes, new bikes and new bikes designed to look like old bikes.
Venice puts it’s own spin on things with some pretty good bands playing under the perfectly warm sun. Cold aluminum cans of beer replace warm cask ales by the pint, so I loose there but BBQ beats Fish and Chips any day. And just like the differences in beers and food, Bobbers replace Cafe Racers. I’m more of a Cafe Racer kind of guy myself, but this being America and all, it seems like the Bobbers are the popular classic bike to ride. Make them out of a Triumph, Honda or a Harley it doesn’t matter. But for sure that’s the style here in Venice, even though there are some world class roads just a few miles away. I guess nobody is in a big hurry, people want to be laid back…..even on a motorcycle.
